About Sam Elias:

I was born around Detroit, Michigan, USA and it is where my family still resides. My father is from Syria and my mother’s grandparents were all from Poland. I currently live in the Red River Gorge, Kentucky. Climbing has in large part directed my life since 2005. I felt immediately at home in the practice and lifestyle and community, and I structured my life so that I could be dedicated to it. I was introduced to climbing through sport climbing, and it is my main pursuit. However, I have explored many styles; traditional climbing, bouldering, deep water soloing, ice and winter mixed climbing/dry tooling, and mountaineering and ski mountaineering. I've redpointed up to 5.14d sport, 5.13d onsight, and 5.14- trad, including 30+ pitch, 5.13+ PreMuir route on El Cap. I've bouldered V12 and flashed V10. I've winter mixed climbed up to M13 and WI6, and onsight up to M11. I won the Winter Mountain Games mixed comps in 2011 and 2012, and I won the Ouray mixed comp in 2019. I've established first ascents and new routes on 5 continents, up to 5.14b and M12. I summited Mt. Everest in May of 2012.
